Der Demokratieverein sieht zwar keine rechtlichen Möglichkeiten, um dagegen vorzugehen. Jedoch soll das Abgeordnetenhaus das Abstimmungsgesetz ändern, um auch Volksbegehrens-Initiativen einen angemessenen Betrag zur Verfügung zu stellen. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=DE style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=DE style='font-size:11.0pt'>„Es kann nicht sein, dass der Senat im Abstimmungskampf einseitig auf öffentliche Gelder zurückgreift und für seine Position zum Volksentscheid möglicherweise gar keine Mehrheit der Bevölkerung hinter sich hat“, kritisiert Oliver Wiedmann, Sprecher von Mehr Demokratie Berlin/Brandenburg.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=DE style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=DE style='font-size:11.0pt'>Der Verein schlägt eine Erstattung nachweislicher Kosten in Höhe von 25 ct pro Unterschrift im Volksbegehren vor. Es sollen maximal Unterschriften von 7% der Stimmberechtigen erstattet werden. Für den Volksentscheid schlägt der Verein 25 ct pro Ja-Stimme vor. Hier sollen maximal ein Viertel der Stimmberechtigten berücksichtigt werden. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=DE style='font-size:11.0pt'>„Die Einführung einer öffentlichen Kostenerstattung ist in acht Bundesländern Praxis.
