Morgen (18.6.20) vor 70 Jahren wurde sie bei einem Volksentscheid von den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern des Landes angenommen. Mehr Demokratie gratuliert zu diesem demokratischen Jubiläum. „Das ist Grund zur Freude, aber auch höchste Zeit, endlich auch in NRW faire Regeln für Volksbegehren und Volksentscheide zu schaffen“, so Nicola Quarz, Landesvorstandssprecherin des Vereins.<br class=""><br class="">So sei das Jubiläumsjahr laut Quarz hervorragend geeignet, um die geltenden Regelungen zur direkten Demokratie auf den Prüfstand zu stellen. „Seit 1950 haben die Bürger in Nordrhein-Westfalen laut Verfassung das Recht, sich mit Hilfe von Volksbegehren und Volksentscheid in die Landespolitik einzumischen. Tatsächlich hat es in der langjährigen Geschichte des Landes aber noch nie eine Volksabstimmung gegeben. Denn durch unerreichbar hohe Hürden besteht das Recht auf Volksentscheid nur auf dem Papier.", so Quarz weiter.<br class=""><br class="">Der Verein Mehr Demokratie plädiert deshalb für eine deutlich Absenkung des Unterschriftenquorums von derzeit 8 auf 2 Prozent. Außerdem müsse das sogenannte Finanztabu, also der Ausschluss von Themen, die Auswirkungen auf den Haushalt haben, gestrichen werden. Anderen Bundesländer wie etwa Hamburg und Berlin sind wesentlich weniger restriktiv in Finanzfragen. Schließlich setzt sich der Verein für eine Abschaffung des Zustimmungsquorums bei Volksentscheiden ein.<br class=""><br class="">Weiterführende Informationen:<br class="">1.
