Bas hatte sich gestern (22.12.) neben einer Absenkung des Wahlalters auf 16 Jahre, die der Verein begrüßt, auch für eine Verlängerung der Wahlperiode auf fünf Jahre ausgesprochen.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black'>Nach Ansicht des Fachverbands bedeutet eine längere Wahlperiode weniger Einfluss für die Bürgerinnen und Bürger. „Bei einer durchschnittlichen Lebenszeit von 80 Jahren können wir 15 mal den Bundestag wählen. Wird die Wahlperiode auf fünf Jahre verlängert, nur noch zwölf mal. Das bedeutet also 20 Prozent weniger Mitbestimmungsrechte“, erläutert Beck. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black'>Werde die längere Wahlperiode dennoch angestrebt, müsse zeitgleich der bundesweite Volksentscheid eingeführt werden, verlangt der Verein. Beck verweist auf die Praxis in den Bundesländern: „Wie in allen Bundesländern müssen die Bürgerinnen und Bürger die Möglichkeit haben, mit Volksbegehren und Volksentscheiden auch zwischen den Wahlen die Politik zu beeinflussen. Nur so lässt sich der Verlust demokratischer Mitbestimmungsrechte wettmachen.“<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"-webkit-standard",serif;color:black'>Derzeit beträgt die Wahlperiode des Bundestages vier Jahre. In der Wahlrechtskommission des Bundestages sprachen sich zuletzt die Obleute von SPD, Union, Grünen und FDP für eine auf fünf Jahre verlängerte Wahlperiode aus. Eine solche Verlängerung bedarf einer Änderung des Grundgesetzes, ebenso wie die Einführung des bundesweiten Volksentscheides. In sämtlichen Bundesländern können die Bürgerinnen und Bürger Volksbegehren starten, um einen Volksentscheid zu erzwingen.
