
<html><head><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></head><body style="overflow-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; line-break: after-white-space;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Mehr Demokratie e. V.</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Landesverband Hessen</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Pressemitteilung</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Wiesbaden, den 04.06.2025</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">+++ Gesetzentwurf zu Wahlalter 16 heute im Innenausschuss des Landtags: Mehr Demokratie e. V. Hessen begrüßt Stärkung der Jugendbeteiligung</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Am heutigen Mittwoch wird im Innenausschuss des Hessischen Landtags ein Gesetzentwurf der Fraktion BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN für das Wahlalter 16 bei Kommunalwahlen behandelt.</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Der Gesetzentwurf wurde im März dieses Jahres in erster Lesung in den Landtag eingebracht und im Anschluss federführend an den Innenausschuss sowie den Arbeits- und Sozialpolitischen Ausschuss überwiesen. In der heutigen Sitzung des Innenausschusses soll beschlossen werden, wie sich der Fortgang des Verfahrens gestaltet. Dazu soll nun eine öffentliche Anhörung von Sachverständigen aus Wissenschaft und Praxis erfolgen.</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Matthias Klarebach, Landesvorstandssprecher von Mehr Demokratie e. V. Hessen, sagte dazu: „Das Wahlalter 16 ist im Einsetzungsantrag der Enquetekommission zur Jugendbeteiligung außen vor gelassen worden. Dieser Gesetzentwurf ist jetzt ein wichtiger demokratischer Impuls, den die Landesregierung hoffentlich aufnehmen wird.“ Klarebach zufolge würde die Senkung des Wahlalters einen wichtigen Schritt zur Stärkung der demokratischen Rechte junger Menschen bedeuten.</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Klarebach weiter: „Die Senkung des Wahlalters ist ein längst überfälliger Schritt: In neun der 16 Bundesländer liegt das Wahlalter für Kommunalwahlen bei 16 Jahren. Mit der kürzlich beschlossenen Kommunalrechtsnovelle wollte die Landesregierung eine Anpassung an die Regelungen anderer Bundesländer erreichen. Es wäre angemessen, diese Angleichung auch hinsichtlich des Wahlalters umzusetzen.“</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Jugendliche seien mit 16 Jahren durchaus in der Lage, Wahlentscheidungen zu treffen und wollen sich in das politische Geschehen einbringen, fährt Klarebach fort. Dies hätten Bewegungen wie Fridays for Future und die regelmäßigen Studien der Otto-Brenner-Stiftung klar gezeigt. Jungen Menschen sollte auch schon früher die Möglichkeit offenstehen, ihre Stimme bei Wahlen abzugeben. Nur so könne Politik generationengerechter werden.</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Die Enquetekommission ‚Demokratie und Teilhabe leben – Beteiligung junger Menschen stärken‘ ist seit letztem September damit beauftragt, die demokratische Teilhabe junger Menschen zu stärken. Im Einsetzungsantrag der Kommission wird eine Senkung des Wahlalters jedoch nicht erwähnt. Für Mehr Demokratie Hessen ist dieser Gesetzentwurf für eine bessere Einbindung junger Menschen in demokratische Prozesse umso wichtiger.</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Mehr Demokratie Hessen befürwortet bereits seit geraumer Zeit eine Senkung Wahlalters und begrüßt die Einbringung des Gesetzentwurfs. </span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">+++ Weitere Informationen:</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><span style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">Gesetzentwurf von BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN vom 18.03.2025</span><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;"><a href="https://starweb.hessen.de/cache/DRS/21/7/02037.pdf" style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;">https://starweb.hessen.de/cache/DRS/21/7/02037.pdf</a><br style="font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;
