Forum in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The mural is the result of a methodology 
developed and practiced by the /Collective/: starting with the emptiness 
of an empty plate, participants discussed issues of food security, 
sovereignty, and justice, and reflected on what it feels like when 
rights are taken away. These reflections were then brought to life in 
the mural: a farmer fighting against sugarcane, a fisherwoman battling 
windmills — images that give visibility to a segment of society so often 
taken for granted: the farmers who produce the food we eat. Artists are 
political actors, and at the Forum, art was not a byproduct but a 
central, powerful political tool for conveying struggles and messages 
globally. /


 >From 6 to 13 September 2025, the city of Kandy in Sri Lanka hosted the 
3rd Nyéléni Global Forum. Small-scale food producers, consumers, 
Indigenous Peoples, trade unions, human rights defenders, climate and 
health justice advocates, urban poor communities, women and 
gender-diverse groups, practitioners of the social and solidarity 
economy, scholars, artists and other representatives from grassroots 
movements and civil society organizations gathered at the National 
Institute of Co-operative Development. Together, they built a Common 
Political Action Agenda (CPAA) for systemic transformation towards 
economic, social, gender, racial and environmental justice.

Over the years, the Nyéléni process has enabled collective movement 
building, offering a space where grassroots movements share struggles, 
analyse trends, and work together toward common solutions. Building on 
the legacies of the first and second Nyéléni fora, both held in Mali, 
this third forum expanded its reach by joining forces with the climate 
justice, people’s health, and social solidarity economy movements.

Reflecting its diversity, the forum brought together participants from 
all regions of the world, with a team of 72 volunteer interpreters 
organised by the collective COATI, working tirelessly to ensure language 
justice and interpretation into 18 official languages.

At its core, the forum reaffirmed that food sovereignty is inseparable 
from global solidarity. From Palestine to Congo, from Haiti to Sudan and 
beyond, participants voiced their commitment to resist oppression in all 
its forms and to build a world rooted in dignity, justice, and care. 
Standing with Palestine — and with all peoples facing occupation, war, 
and dispossession— was recognized as a shared responsibility and a 
reflection of the movement’s collective vision of justice.

The forum culminated in the acclamation of the Kandy declaration and the 
anticipation of an enriched CPAA, both intended to serve as a political 
compass guiding the actions and vision of movements worldwide striving 
for food sovereignty and justice.

This edition of the Nyéléni newsletter shares a selection of the forum’s 
highlights, capturing several of the participants’ perspectives. As the 
Kandy declaration states: “Across all the diversities we represent—to 
strengthen our struggles - we are raising our voices together, 
declaring: Systemic Transformation—Now and Forever!”

منتدى نييليني الثالث في كاندي، سريلانكا. خرجت هذه اللوحة الجدارية نتيجة 
المنهجية التي قامت المجموعة بتطويرها وممارستها: بدءاً من فراغ الطبق 
الفارغ، حيث تناقش المشاركون بشأن مسائل تتعلق بالأمن الغذائي والسيادة 
والعدالة الغذائيتين، وتناولوا الشعور الذي يسود في حالة انتزاع الحقوق. ثم 
قاموا بإحياء هذه الأفكار على الجدارية: فلاح في معركة ضد قصب السكر وصيادة 
سمك تحارب طواحين الهواء – صور تبرز شريحة من المجتمع تُعتبر في أغلب 
الأحيان أمراً مفروغاً منه: الفلاحون الذين ينتجون/ / الفلاحات اللاتي 
ينتجن الغذاء الذي نأكله. الفنانون/ الفنانات أطراف سياسية فاعلة، ولم يكن 
الفن ناتجاً ثانوياً في المنتدى، بل أداة سياسية هامة وقوية لنقل حركات 
النضال والرسائل على مستوى العالم.

استضافت مدينة كاندي في سريلانكا منتدى نييليني العالمي الثالث خلال الفترة 
من 6إلى 13أيلول/ سبتمبر 2025. صغار منتجي/ منتجات الأغذية والمستهلكون/ 
المستهلكات والسكان الأصليون والنقابات العمالية والمدافعون/ المدافعات عن 
حقوق الإنسان والمؤازرون/ المؤازرات للعدالة المناخية والصحية والمجتمعات 
الفقيرة في الحضر ومجموعات النساء والفئات المتنوعة من حيث النوع الجنساني 
والممارسون/ الممارسات للاقتصاد الاجتماعي والتضامني والعلماء/ العالمات 
والفنانون/ الفنانات والممثلون الآخرون/ الممثلات الأخريات من الحركات 
الشعبية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني المجتمعون/ المجتمعات في المعهد الوطني 
للتنمية التعاونية. وضعوا معاً أجندة العمل السياسي المشترك للتحول المنهجي 
نحو العدالة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والجنسانية والعرقية والبيئية.

وعلى مدار السنين، ساعدت عملية نييليني على بناء حركة جماعية، حيث قدمت 
المساحة التي تتقاسم فيها الحركات الشعبية نشاطها النضالي وتحلل التوجهات 
وتعمل معاً من أجل التوصل إلى حلول مشتركة. واستناداً إلى موروثات الدورتين 
الأولى والثانية من منتدى نييليني اللتين انعقدتا في مالي، توسع نطاق 
المنتدى الثالث واتحد مع الحركات المعنية بالعدالة المناخية وصحة الشعوب 
واقتصاد التضامن الاجتماعي.

وتعبيراً عن التنوع، جمع المنتدى بين المشاركين القادمين من جميع المناطق 
حول العالم ومجموعة من 72مترجماً فورياً متطوعاً/ مترجمة فورية متطوعة 
منظمين بمعرفة مجموعة COATI ويعملون على نحو دؤوب لتحقيق العدالة اللغوية 
والترجمة الفورية إلى 18 لغة رسمية.

ولقد أكد المنتدى مجدداً في جوهره أن السيادة الغذائية لا تنفصل عن التضامن 
العالمي. من فلسطين إلى الكنغو، ومن هايتي إلى السودان وما وراءه، عبر 
المشاركون/ المشاركات عن التزامهم بمقاومة القمع بجميع أشكاله، وبناء عالم 
متأصل في الكرامة والعدالة والرعاية. وتم اعتبار الوقوف مع فلسطين - ومع 
جميع الشعوب التي تتعرض للاحتلال والحرب والسلب - مسؤولية مشتركة وانعكاساً 
للرؤية الجماعية للحركة فيما يتعلق بالعدالة.

وتوّج المنتدى بتوجيه التحية لإعلان كاندي واستشراف أجندة ثرية للعمل 
السياسي المشترك، لتصبح بمثابة بوصلة سياسية لتوجيه أعمال ورؤية الحركات 
حول العالم التي تسعى إلى تحقيق السيادة والعدالة الغذائيتين.

هذا الإصدار من النشرة الدورية نييليني إنما يقدم بعضاً من ملامح المنتدى 
وينقل رؤى متعددة للمشاركين/ المشاركات. حيث ينص إعلان كاندي على ما يلي: 
"عبر جميع التنوعات التي نمثلها - بغية تعزيز نضالنا - نرفع أصواتنا معاً 
ونعلن: التحول المنهجي - الآن وإلى الأبد!"
